- Albuquerque Residency Artistic Associate
Description
This artist will teach, choreograph, and direct outreach programming in public elementary schools and at statewide residency sites, supporting the artistic quality and administrative success of both. The Artistic Associate is a lead teaching artist in the outreach programs in public elementary schools in Albuquerque and at our statewide Residency sites. The Associate supports the administrative and production needs of both programs and is responsible to the Residency Artistic Director for ensuring the artistic and administrative success and quality of the programs. The Associate is responsible for carrying out the organization's mission with excellence. They receive secondary oversight from the Albuquerque Outreach Artistic Director.
Primary Responsibilities:
Artistic- Teaching, Choreographing, and Directing
Teaches and creates choreography for approximately 10-12 hrs/week in Albuquerque Outreach Programs 1 semester/year
Teaches and creates choreography for 12-15 weeks in Residency Outreach Program 1 semester/year (traveling to and living in communities; includes per diem, lodging, paid travel time and mileage reimbursement, travel bonus, and additional paid time off)
Teaches and Creates choreography for other programs as needed including Summer programs, In-school, After-School, and Advanced Training programs
Teaches Train the Trainer workshops and other related programs
Subs in the outreach and after-school programs as needed
Administrative
Supports administration and production of associated programs, projects and events, including Train the Trainer, Thank You Project, special events and others
Supports Artistic Directors with other organizational projects
Special Projects and Productions
Provides backstage and/or front of house support for performances at The Hiland Theater including Outreach End-of-Year Events, and Hiland Program performances, including acting as stage manager, runner, or other roles.
Provides backstage and/or front of house support for Residency performances, including acting as stage manager, runner, or other roles.
Provides support for Hiland Community Engagement Events
Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
-Professional dance performance experience preferred
-Bachelor’s degree in Dance, Dance Education, or a related field, or the equivalent education/experience, preferred
-1-3 years of experience in job-related duties (teaching, choreography, production or administration)
-Experience teaching in related outreach programs preferred
-Ability to work a flexible schedule
-Excellent verbal and written communication skills
-Excellent organizational skills
-Highly motivated and energetic
-Passionate about working with children through the NDI-NM methodology
-Passionate about work with children in after-school dance program with focus on balancing rigorous dance training with a philosophy of inclusion, celebration of diversity, and focus on building confidence, character, and community
-Ability to communicate fluently in both English and Spanish, a plus
